Hey Bratz Fans!

Just over a week ago, we unveiled some amazing Bratz designs by Youngsin Kwon from that mysterious era in 2009 when the girlz’ fate was still in legal limbo. Seeing some of those sketches and prototypes gave us all an awesome look at what almost was, as well as a behind-the-scenes-peek at some of the released dolls in their earliest forms! Being as nosy curious as we are, we just had to try and reach out to the designer herself, and to our delight, she got back to us! Since her time with the Bratz, Youngsin has totally kept herself busy as a successful designer at huge places like A&F, Disney Korea, Sanrio, and is currently designing for Korea’s largest toy company, Young Toys! And despite her understandably packed schedule, Miss Kwon has agreed to let us interview her, and we want you to help us!

BB Youngsin Interview

Keep in mind how totally monumental this is! Before now, we’d probably never learn anything more about what MGA had planned for the Bratz in fall 2009, and certainly not into 2010, but now we’ve got direct access to the woman who designed it all! This is also a great opportunity to learn more about what it takes to become a fashion designer, as well as the process of designing for Bratz, and dolls in general! Aren’t you psyched?! 😀

You can comment your questions below, or submit them on facebook, twitter, tumblr, and flickr too!

Hey Bratz Fans! We’ve finally got some Bratz news to share, or well, it’s news to us! The blog of a former MGA designer was brought to our attention, and we are floored by what’s on it! The blog is called Sparkling and Sensuous, and is that of Youngsin Kwon, former Bratz & Moxie Girlz designer for MGA! In 2011 (How on Earth did we all miss this?!), Kwon posted quite a few of her designs for the Bratz, and Moxie Girlz, and we are living! Check them all out below.

Top L-R: Unreleased Costume Party Jade, Unreleased Alter Ego Jade, Fall 2008 Passion 4 Fashion Cloe. Bottom L-R: Unreleased Costume Party Yasmin, Play Sportz X-Treme Motocross Jade, Fall 2008 Passion 4 Fashion Cloe. Click to view BIG full size!

Top L-R: Unreleased Costume Party Jade, Unreleased Alter Ego Jade, Fall 2008 Passion 4 Fashion Cloe. Bottom L-R: Unreleased Costume Party Yasmin, Play Sportz X-Treme Motocross Jade, Fall 2008 Passion 4 Fashion Cloe. Click to view BIG full size!

Some of these should look pretty familiar to you guys, like the unreleased 2009 Costume Party line that was briefly on mgae.com, or the Passion 4 Fashion fall 2008 line which obviously did come out, but is it not totally AMAZING to see them in their earliest stages on paper?! It’s also fun to note how the designs were changed for production. And what shouldn’t look familiar is the never-before-heard-of Alter Ego line! We have to wonder if this idea is what led to the Moxie Girlz’ spring 2010 More2Me range? The designs Jade is rockin’ here are totally more edgy than anything from that, though. Imagine a Jade with hair like that?! *_*

Top L-R: Party 2009 Yasmin, Unreleased Magic Hair Fall 09 Jade, Pampered Petz Jade. Bottom L-R: Party 2009 Sasha, Unreleased Magic Hair Fall 09 Yasmin, Pampered Petz Yasmin. Click to view full size!

This second set is especially interesting, as we get a peek at what was planned for the fall 2009 Magic Hair range! Previously, there was just a prototype for the Big Bratz Yasmin from the line (Note the obvious “scene queen” inspiration!) From what we have so far, it looks like the focus would have been on color, but maybe cutting layers, too? So many questions! Also worth noting is Party Sasha’s adorable sketch with her more textured, and lighter-colored, hair! Thank goodness those sneakers were upgraded to Princess heels though 😉

Top L-R: Iconz Jade, Unreleased Best Friends Cloe & Yasmin 2-pack. Bottom L-R: Iconz Sasha, Unreleased Rebel Royalty Jade! Click to view full size.

Top L-R: Iconz Jade, Unreleased Best Friends Cloe & Yasmin 2-pack. Bottom L-R: Iconz Sasha, Unreleased Rebel Royalty Jade! Click to view full size.

The third and final set of Bratz designs is one that really stands out to us, ‘cuz we get a peek at the original ideas for Iconz (Jade’s parasol – eep! And again, thank goodness for editing in Sasha’s case, LOL), as well as the original (Again very “Scene Queen”-influenced) Best Friends 2-pack, which eventually ended up with the Moxie Girlz, and another totally NEW discover, the “Rebel Royalty” line! Now it’s no secret that MGA had toyed with that idea before, as the working titles for the fan-fave Bratz Princess line were “Rebel Princess” and “Ragin’ Royals”, but who would have suspected a more urban, street-fashioned sequel was in the works for ’09, or maybe even 2010?! We love love LOVE the inclusion of the mask, and that yellow fur!

Top L-R: Basic Fall 2010 Avery (On Kellan!), Magic Snow Sophina, Unreleased Costume Party Clown Sophina. Bottom L-R: Unreleased "Granola Girl" Monet, Magic Snow Avery, and Magic Hair Stamp 'n' Style Sophina! Click to view BIG full size

And while some of you might not be too into the Moxie Girlz, we couldn’t leave out the FAB sketches for them! Sophina’s crimps are everything, and we can only imagine what “Granola Girl” was for x) So, what are your thoughts? Anything you wish we got in 2009? Any ideas you’d like to see revisited at some point? Sound off on facebook, twitter, and tumblr!

“Viviana™ and Valentina™ are Vi and Va™! Two sisters and best friends with their cousins, Felicia™ and Roxxi™. Every day is an adventure and a reason to celebrate the bond of family and friendship.”

Now, while we obviously can’t talk about this year’s Bratz yet, as you can guess from the above logo,we do have some other MGA news to share! Just yesterday, a mysterious new display popped up at a Target in Houston, Texas, featuring some VERY mysterious and totally MGA-style artwork! (Check out the original spotting here on flickr!) We asked one of our peeps at MGA, but before we could even get an answer, our awesome friend, Teahoshi, got the full scoop! The new brand is called “Vi-and-Va”, and appears to be kind of like a new, more family-focused, Bratz Kidz-styled line? At least the artwork is very similar! Check out their cute illustration below!

Their names, Felicia, Viviana, Valentina, and Roxxi, should sound pretty familiar to any Bratz fan, as 3/4 of them are from the girlz themselves! Name recycling isn’t anything new for MGA, but it is interesting that they chose such memorable ones! Regardless, they are pretty cute! Teahoshi also shared the news that they have listings on Target.com! Check out the photos, and links to the listings, below 🙂

Okay, we have to admit, we’re a little surprised that these are teens! But nonetheless, they are pretty cute, and we’re guessing these are geared more towards a younger market anyways. We like the Latin-influenced vibe and the friends-and-family angle is a fun twist as well! You can follow the brand as they develop on their official website, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, and more than likely, their facebook and YouTube channels soon as well!

What are your thoughts? Let us know on our own facebook, twitter, or tumblr!

Hey Bratz Fans!

It’s been a slow news year for us, so we’re sorry for the lack of Bratz updates! But we finally do have something cool to share about our favorite Girls With a Passion for Fashion – We got our hands on the official prototypes and inspiration boards for this year’s international exclusive My Passion Wave 2 Yasmin and Meygan dolls! How seriously stunning are these two?! Luckily (Well for those of you who live in the few places these were sold!) the finished dolls don’t differ too much – Meygan’s accessories actually got a little more detailed, taking some clear inspiration from the makeup case shown in her mood board. One thing we’re extremely curious about is “Indie Song Writer Felicia“! Yes, you’re reading that right, Pretty Princess was going to be a brand new Felicia! To be honest, we’re so relieved that didn’t end up happening. Can you imagine the agony of never being able to own her?! Nonetheless, it’s good to know she’s still being considered by MGA and we would totally LOVE to see the earliest prototype for her as Fe.

So what are your thoughts?! Comment below, or let us know on facebook or twitter!

NEW Novi Stars for 2014!

October 10, 2014

Hey Bratz – and Novi Stars – Fans!

We’ve got some totally cosmic, and quite surprising news: There are in fact brand new Novi Stars dolls for 2014! You all might remember earlier this year, when we confirmed that the brand (As well as Bratzillaz) would be taking an “international holiday” of sorts during 2014, and not a peep about them has been heard since! Until now, that is. Four brand new characters in the Supernovas and Novi Stars Invasion lines have been spotted on several Russian shopping sites! Check ’em out below.

This is definitely out-of-this-world and unexpected! We’re happy to see MGA is keeping their word on the Novis, and it gives us hope for the ‘Zillaz, too! These four new invaders are all really cute and cleverly-designed (Though we must admit the budget seems considerably lower than when they were a full brand) and should they ever hit North America, we’ll be picking them up! As for where anyone else can, it’s hard to say! They’ve only been seen on Russian websites so far, but it’s totally possible they could be going to the UK and other countries as well. We’ll be sure to ask our peeps at MGA and give you all the scoop when we get it!

Hey Bratz Fans!

****6/23/14 UPDATE!****
We have received confirmation from MGA that our theory was in fact correct! The “Bratz Classicz” title is NOT just a one-off release, but will actually be an umbrella title used to cover all existing Bratz media – The movies & TV episodes! Hooray!

As we’re sure you all remember, a few months back, the Bratz took to their official facebook to ask the fans what they would like to be the title of an upcoming Bratz TV series box set! Of course, everybody was jumping for joy – this would mark the first ever box set of the Bratz TV series to ever be released in the US, and was a definite major step in the right direction for the Bratz’ marketing! Now, a little bit later, a new Bratz DVD box set has popped up at Walmart stores very unexpectedly, using the winning title: “Bratz Classicz”! However it is not at all what anyone was expecting… Check out the cover below, found and shared on instagram by the amazing littlemissnoname!

Bratz Classicz 6 Movie Collection! Click to view full size.

Bratz Classicz 6 Movie Collection! Click to view full size.

Hm… Unless this is the first in a series of DVDs under the title, we’re honestly disappointed! The Bratz have already released box sets of their movies – and ones that made more sense at that (Bratz Go To Paris is included, but not Rock Angelz…?). And that aside, the packaging looks a little random and not nearly as iconic or retrospective as many fans were hoping based on the title. The stars and gradient backgrounds are borrowed from 2010’s branding, while the “art” is from the Passion 4 Fashion Diamondz DVD cover, and the logo and impact font are all from last year! We’re seriously hoping this is just one release in an upcoming series of “Bratz Classicz”, perhaps as a one-off release just for Walmart (Note that it’s an exclusive, and the surprisingly low price for a box set). You can trust that we’ll be asking our peeps at MGA for the full story! So…

Hey Bratz Fans!

It’s been exactly one month since our last post. Again, we are so sorry for the lack of news! So here’s to the Bratz Pack! They may be on hiatus during 2014, but we can assure you there are big things cooking for their comeback next fall, so in the meantime, let’s celebrate!
